TAN Registration is the procedure by which eligible parties apply for TAN registration and receive their TAN. After registration, the party is legally authorized to deduct or collect Tax at source and remit the Tax to the government. This registration also requires that the TAN be quoted in all TDS/TCS transactions, returns, and compliance documents.
Who needs to obtain a TAN?
Anyone, whether it is an individual or a business, who has to deduct tax at the source. This could be salary payments, payments to contractors, or even rent payments above Rs. 1,80,000 a year. If you fall into this category, you have to apply for a TAN online and obtain your number.
1. Non-profits are not exempt from this either. If they are making payments above the prescribed limit, they have to obtain a TAN as well.
2. This applies to company branches as well. If the branch is making payments above the prescribed limit, they have to register as well.
3.But if you are just a salary earner, you do not have to worry about TANs. You do not have to deduct tax at the source or obtain a TAN number.
