What is TDS for NRIs?
A tax collecting system known as Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) involve’s the payer deducting tax from their income and depositing it with the government. Section 195 of the Income Tax Act state’s that payment’s given to non-resident Indians (NRIs) for income earned in India, including dividend’s, bank deposit interest, and rental income, are subject to TDS.
Who is eligible to file Form 13?
Anyone can apply for Form 13. It should be stressed that the benefit of lower or no tax deduction would only be given if the assessing officer is convinced that the assessee's income warrants the lower or non-deduction of taxes, or if the assessee would be unreasonably burdened by a higher rate of deduction.For the purposes of the Form 13 application, persons include individuals, HUFs, AOPs, BOIs, trusts claiming benefits under sections 11, 12, or 10 of the Income Tax Act, societies, businesses, firms, etc.
